Career decisions play a pivotal role in shaping the future growth and development of students. In today’s environment of multiple options, knowing about the choices available helps students in their decision-making process. Looking into these needs, a career counselling session was organized for the students of Grade IX and X on 20th April 2022 in the school’s Shooting Range.
The session was conducted by the eminent Career Counsellor from Suncity School Sector 54, Ms Shoma Dham. She began her session by educating the students on how to plan their careers, explore and research all possibilities and try and make the right choices based on academics, personality and desire. She foretold the students about the basic errors that could be committed related to parental & peer pressure, mob mentality, employment, etc.
The session also involved discussions on what skills could be developed and how students could use this time to build their educational profile and add to one’s repertoire of qualifications .Ms Shoma, then enlightened the Grade 9 & 10 students about the stream choices of Science, Commerce, Humanities & Liberal Arts and the various jobs opportunities in each. While discussing about the subjects she also told the students about the difference between Jobs and Career. Towards the end of the workshop there was a Q&A session where the children asked questions regarding the career options. Students’ queries were answered promptly and the session concluded with a wonderful thought that skill set or learning should match one’s aspirations. The session was not only informative but engaging and motivating.
