The best way to reconnect with the Food is to Visit a Farm.’
Field trips are an important component of the conceptual learning and are a part of the TASK (Trip, Application, Skill, Knowledge) methodology of Suncity School. Keeping that in mind, the students of Grade I and II students recently enjoyed an engaging educational trip to Gurwara Farm, immersing themselves in nature and gaining valuable insights about the farm food. This visit was closely aligned with the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 2-Zero Hunger and integrated it with the theme of the month, ‘Food’.
At Gurwara Farm, a local farm that embraces sustainable and organic farming practices, the students learned about different vegetables, fruits, millets, and grains. The young learners enthusiastically posed inquiries and got engaged in thoughtful dialogues. Post that, they relished the delicious lunch and proceeded to partake in dance and games. Upon their re-entry into the classrooms, the students diligently completed the reflection sheets by engaging into introspective pondering and self-examination.
In alignment with the farm visit experience, the educators hosted a fun-filled costume party for Grade I on the theme- ‘Farm to Plate’ which fostered their learning of the monthly theme- ‘Food’ and reiterated upon SDG -12, ‘Responsible Consumption and Production.’ Our young and talented children showcased their versatility by dressing up and doing a short role play as one of the key players in the farm to plate food cycle. Children came dressed up as Farmers, Vegetable Sellers, Milkmen, Grocers, Chefs, etc. and mesmerized us with their performances supported by the use of outstanding props such as tools used at the farm, green grocers market props, chef’s kitchen models and many more. Last but not the least, the message of ‘Zero Food Wastage’ was brought forward and the children took the pledge of not wasting food in their plates.
